The Beauty of SIMPLE

Raise your hand if you like simple, clean and bright! I see you…thanks for agreeing. 🙂

Mark and I definitely lean toward the minimalistic sense of design. We like clean lines and favor simple accents over lots of stuff and overly fussy design.

The master bedroom in our first renovation is the perfect example of simple, clean and bright.

Our exposed brick fireplace is a central feature of the bedroom. Mark used extra bricks from downstairs to make a cool hearth that’s a bump out on the floor in front of the fireplace.

We chose a light pine floor and sanded it just a little before putting a clear protectant on it. The protectant let the natural color come through without too much shine.

A sleek ceiling fan, dark chocolate wood blinds and just a few accessories finish off the space! I love this bedroom…the only thing it needs is a bigger closet!

Awful weather…perfect for painting

Mark and I housed this AMAZING meal at Dish Osteria on the South Side on Friday night.

the best places to eat in Pittsburgh

You must go to this place…it’s like being in Italy!

Stuffed to the gills…and with negative wind chills…we stayed inside and tackled the second (AND FINAL!) coat of paint in our back bedroom.

Mark attacked the ceiling and then all the window trim.

We pride ourselves on a neat and tidy workspace, but this is the truth of what home renovations really look like!

So good he could cry!

Mark walked in the door like this.

what's the best ceiling fan

He was so happy to find the ceiling fan that we thought had been discontinued.

We wanted the fan in our back bedroom to match the fan that’s in our master bedroom.

We looked for it everywhere but couldn’t find it.

A few days ago, Mark went to the Lowe’s on McKnight and they had one left on the very top shelf.

And if his life couldn’t get any better, Mark then stopped to get a car wash and got a free one because the owner wanted to test out a new wash product.

Mark literally came home and told me he almost cried in the car because his day was so good!

An update + a cool picture

The following photo has absolutely nothing to do home renovations, but I like it…so here you go.

urban decay

It’s very “urban decay”…isn’t it?!

Now, onto real things that matter…like progress pictures.

Our back bedroom has acted as a storage room throughout our home renovation.

When Pittsburgh Magazine featured us…it still looked like garbage.

In the last three weeks, we got our act together.

I present to you, our back room…mudded and taped and sanded smooth!

I’ll say out loud what you’re all thinking – IT’S ABOUT TIME!
