When it’s GOOD ENOUGH!

Trying to be perfect is exhausting and, honestly, if you achieved perfection…you would be annoying and not someone I’d want to hang out with. HA!

My current motto is “That’s GOOD ENOUGH!”

What I mean by that is some days I’m feeling great. I’m well rested, Henry is a happy little peanut and I’m able to take him to the library, playground, water park and do the laundry with ease.

But other days…and there are many…I am just exhausted!

On those days, I operate from the “GOOD ENOUGH!” philosophy.

If I get home from work and I’m tired and can’t get off the couch, Henry and I will watch kids shows for 2 hours and it’s fine.

If Henry is fussy and I can’t soothe him and I have to put his binky in while we’re out and about…I just do it and it’s fine.

If Henry eats frozen Trader Joe’s meatballs 2 times a week because I don’t have fresh food for him…it’s fine and he is perfect.

I think we all need to remember is that one instance of “not being perfect” will not determine the total outcome of us or our children.

We become fully realized human beings who are molded from MANY moments…and if the majority of them are good, then we are just FINE.

I’ll end this blog post here because it’s GOOD ENOUGH!

One of THOSE Moms

I joke with my friends that I’m gonna be one of those National Geographic moms who breastfeeds their kid forever.

Henry is almost 14 months and still nursing exclusively. (He also eats like a grown man and would’ve eaten his entire birthday cake if we let him!)

There was a moment when I thought I should wean him because I didn’t want other people to think I was weird.

Can I just tell you…I’M SO OVER THAT!

Now that Henry’s older, our nursing sessions are even more about bonding than they were before.

When he nurses, he’ll stop every minute or so and just smile at me…or coo at me…or say Momma, Momma, Momma!

My heart SOARS every time!

I want to point out that I am lucky to still be nursing because I have a husband, parents and work family who were/are very supportive and my body naturally makes a good supply of milk.

I also think I’ve been successful at nursing because I didn’t put any expectations on myself.

When he was born, I told myself I would try to breastfeed but if it didn’t work…it would be fine. I told myself the same thing at 6 months and a year.

Not trying to meet some ridiculous expectation took the stress off.

So, to all my baby Mommas out there, do what works for you, don’t put crazy expectations on yourself and don’t care one bit about what other people think!

Baby proofing to the MAX!

We love our cool little house, but we definitely designed it for adults with its exposed brick and hard wood floors, a concrete dining room table and floating stairs with sharp edges.

home renovation ideas

I love our house even more with our 13-month-old in it even though we are constantly trying to make sure he doesn’t slip, fall or crack his head on a corner.

Now, we are baby proofing to the max and Henry is helping.

He helped his Daddy pick up and carry out these pipe insulators from Home Depot.

We put them on the edges of our stairs. Of course, Henry’s favorite thing is to take them off!

My little man…I love how he is a mini version of Mark with his love of all things Home Depot!

New Year, Better Us

I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions but I am going to try something this year.

For 2018, we’re going to set an “intention” for our family. And this intention is going to be a guide post for how we live our life this year.

I’ve been feeling an energy in my soul over the last few months and it’s saying “have no fear.” Do not let fear rule your life, make your decisions, influence your happiness or take the enthusiasm out of an opportunity.

So that’s what we’re going to strive for in 2018. Whether that means moving forward on a big project with the house…or taking on something new at work…or going after a passion that fills our hearts and brings us joy.

I think only GOOD can come from that!

Christmas with the Champion Eater!

You know Christmas is going to be great when Hank the Tank looks this good in his holiday pajamas!!!

IMG_6954

Sweet baby boy did not disappoint this Christmas…he woke up VERY HAPPY although he has no idea who Santa is and could have cared less that we bought him a Tickle Me Elmo.

IMG_6959

Henry’s Nana and Pap went all out with the gifts for him and cousins Lily and Caroline.

IMG_6974

Henry got like 20 new truck books and a tiny keyboard that he points at and shouts “Oooooo!!!”

We also celebrated Christmas with a non-stop day of eating. Henry, you know, is a champion eater who had ham and eggs in the morning…3 different casseroles at his Aunt Susie’s for lunch…and prime rib, potatoes and tiramisu at his favorite Aunt Trudy’s!

I didn’t get Mark a gift and he didn’t get me one…we put a new roof on the new house instead.

I always thought I’d love diamonds under the tree…but now I’m a girl who gets excited about new shingles and a french door that’s coming in a few weeks!

We Survived The 1st Year!

Our sweet baby Henry is now 1. I can’t believe it…it was the fastest year of my life!

I’m not the greatest mom in the history of the world, but I’ve learned a few gems that I now live by and want to share.

Henry has eaten his fair share of dirt, leaves, rocks and yucky stuff at the playground…and he is fine! We don’t let him make a meal of it, but it’s impossible to keep your kid away from every germ…and you’ll lose your sanity if you try.

Showering once a week is perfectly acceptable. Henry gets a bath several times a week, but Momma survives on dry shampoo and a delightful new perfume I got from Jo Malone. I either don’t have time to shower, or (if I do) I’d rather sleep!

Henry wears the same 4 outfits and most times they don’t match! As long as his clothes are clean and he is happy, I don’t really care how he looks. He is currently wearing a “Santa’s Favorite Elf” shirt because it fits around his big belly and that was the first thing I grabbed. HA!

Don’t compare yourself to other moms on social media. If they act like their lives are perfect with a baby…they’re lying!!! Having a baby is SO HARD and you spend most of the day on the floor, in a sweatshirt, your hair in a ponytail and crusty makeup from the day before under your eyes. Trust me.

You must do what works for YOU. Henry watches Sesame Street in the morning (so that I can get ready for work) and at night (so that I can shove some food in my mouth and have a few sips of wine.) He only sits still when that show is on, and so I use it so that I can get myself together. NO SHAME…USE SESAME STREET!

We’re finally in a REALLY good place! Henry is now at a really fun age and I’ve gotten better at being a Mom. I feel less overwhelmed than I did during months 6-9 and (I’m glad to report) the days are much easier for me!

On The Move!

Henry is on the move and things are cooking over in our little neck of the world.

We’ve made some great progress with our house renovation but I’m saving those details for a later date! 🙂

Our Mini Man turned 11 months old last week and we are planning his 1st birthday party.

I cannot believe it’s been a year since I had him…that was the FASTEST year of my life!!!

Henry’s favorite thing to do right now is run around and eat.

The boy has endless energy and literally runs all through the house!

My mom tried to feed him his puréed baby food the other day and he screamed until she fed him lasagna and meatballs. HAHA!!

Love my big boy!
