The Grand House

Henry-Approved Progress!

Our 15-month-old seems very pleased with the house renovation so far! Henry and Daddy usually consult about the progress during their weekend morning coffee runs.

Then Momma and Henry stop by in the afternoon to make sure everything is going smoothly! πŸ™‚

The inside framing is complete. We have the walls, temporary staircases and rooms framed in on every floor.

It’s exciting because we can finally start to see what the house is going to look like!

Mark also finished putting in the last new window on the third floor.

Next on the agenda is leveling the floors, putting down plywood and installing the permanent staircase.

Our new shower and bathtub also arrived…hopefully this time they fit through the door. In our first renovation, we had to take out a window to get them in!

Dormer Demolition!

We made some BIG progress on the new house in the past several weeks! Yay!

Mark and my super fantastic brother-in-law, Kevin, got on the roof and demo-ed the two dormers.

Our plan is for that third floor to be two kids rooms with a bathroom, and so we wanted to double the size of the dormers to make that space bigger.

Mark and Kevin got all the demolition done in about six hours and did not fall off the roof. SUCCESS!

We then had an AMAZING Amish crew come in and rebuild the new, bigger dormers.

Mark wanted to help, but the crew was so talented that he just stayed out of their way and watched and learned!

We love how the expanded dormers add so much light and extra height room!

We almost power washed our kid.

Hank got this new kick ass stroller (which is nicer than my car) and we’ve been spending most of our time outside!

We visit Dad while he works on the new house at least 5 times every weekend.

Last Saturday and Sunday, Mark power washed the new brick addition and the front facade of the house.

I told him to be extra careful because he is not allowed to fall off the ladder or scaffolding because I am not raising this baby by myself. πŸ™‚

Mark’s first attempt at power washing didn’t go well because the machine he rented wasn’t strong enough…he said he could rinse Henry off with it. Ha!

He got a stronger one and blasted away.

Next step is to order windows…we’re getting new ones that look like the old original ones to go with the feel of the house…can’t wait!

Major Milestones

We’ve hit some pretty big milestones this week…with Hank the Tank and with the new house!

img_2130

Our big boy has figured out how to roll over.

Now, he won’t stop. Put him on the floor and the kid will roll to the next room…or under the table…or anywhere else to freak us out!

img_2127

The major masonry work on the new house was also finished this week.

Even though Mark probably permanently damaged his arm from cleaning 3,000 bricks…all that hard work paid off.

I’ve got to do a blog post with a full reveal of the brick work complete with before and after shots…promise I’ll get to that!

Also exciting for us…Henry slept a full five hours without waking up and when you hold him on your hip, he can now keep his back, head and neck very straight.

This probably doesn’t seem like a big deal, but this is our world now and we get excited over the smallest things with this sweet boy!

Does Anybody Need A Tub?

For those of you following along (we love you!)…you are well aware that Mark and I tore down the entire front brick wall of our Victorian home.

While we were at it we thought…what the hell…let’s tear down the back too! πŸ™‚

image

Tony G and his crew demoed this white structure which was a tiny kitchen on the very back end of the house.

image

The upper level of the brick addition on the home came down as well.

image

That’s where we had the bathtub sticking out for all to see! Does anybody need a tub?! πŸ˜‰

image

The bricks that came down were used to rebuild the front brick wall…and the plan is to turn this portion into a second level outdoor patio with an outdoor fireplace.

You might think a newborn baby has slowed us down, but Mark and Hank are already designing the new outdoor patio and kitchen.

image

And all of you know that Mark’s eye for style is on point and the rough draft drawings of the patio and kitchen are FAB-U-LOUS.

Can’t wait to show you!

We Just Had A Baby…So Let’s Renovate Another House!

Yes…most people think we’re nuts, but life’s too short to slow down and not go for your dreams. And this house is part of our dreams!

image

We took Baby Hank to see the work we’ve done so far. We told him that it doesn’t look like much now…but Daddy’s vision for this old Victorian house is spectacular!

Our first order of business was to fix the brick work on the front facade.

home improvement

The brick had a wicked bow and we had to take all the brick off and rebuild the wall in order to make it right.

A huge task…I know.

Lucky for us, our friend and neighbor has a top notch team that does exactly this kind of work and they’re taking good care of us.

Tony G and his crew first started shoring the inside of the house.

They then dismantled the brick and put up scaffolding.

Mark will do some of the major interior wall building this weekend while I take care of our little man.

Mark builds us a house…I build up our son! πŸ™‚

From House to Home!

Getting ready for baby and “nesting” hardcore over here!

And it’s not just limited to the baby’s room…I am like a madwoman trying to put the finishing touches on the rest of the house!

home renovation

I’ve forced Mark to hang more art and pictures in the last 3 weeks than he’s done in his entire life.

I love it all.

home renovation

It really makes the house feel like a home.

Our finished kitchen really rounds everything out!

The kitchen remodel was our last BIG project and it feels soooooo good to have it done!

I think the last missing piece will be our little peanut!
