Moving In

Living in the moment!

With Mark’s work and my schedule, we are like ships passing in the night.

We see each other for about five seconds when I get home at night. Mark opens his eyes, says hello and then we both crash.

image

It’s not good or bad…just the current situation we find ourselves in.

That means we are EXTRA GRATEFUL for the few hours we have together on the weekends (when Mark’s not working and I’m not teaching spin class…woot woo!)

image

We are still making progress on the house, it’s just going very SLOWLY.

Thank heavens for this guy…

After being down and out with a terrible case of shingles, my Daddio is back and helping us paint the downstairs.

Bromance is back on!

Back on Pittsburgh time!

Hubby Mark has officially kinda gotten over the jet lag.

Coffee helps…especially when you get to drink it in your super cool Dubai coffee mug.

image

You KNOW my Canadian husband found a Tim Hortons while he was in the United Arab Emirates. Mark has an inner compass that always directs him to the nearest Tim’s.

image

It’s nice having my partner back! This weekend, Mark and I are going to prime the downstairs walls.

One of my best girls is also coming to visit with her husband from New Jersey.

She’s pregnant too. I think every person I know is pregnant but me.

(Take the hint, Mark)

Mark was in a Geico commercial

Well, not really…but as soon as I saw this picture all I could think about was HUMP DAY! Woot woot!!

image

Mark said you could go on a “camel ride” on the beaches of Dubai. After he saw the camels, he showed his colleagues the Geico commercial that ran in the States…too funny!

image

My husband really had the trip of a lifetime. Granted, he worked like 14 hour days, but he did have a moment or two to take in the incredible city of Dubai.

image

The buildings and architecture blew him away.

image

Nothing is impossible in Dubai. In the desert, they have an indoor ski resort and an ice rink…it reminded Mark of the Consol Energy Center.

image

The opulence is unreal. While I was in Lawrenceville throwing back a Bud Light, Mark enjoyed a $20 beer at the world’s tallest building…complete with a lemon-infused hand towel for his refreshment.

image

Mark says Dubai is just as swanky and international (maybe more so) than New York City and Toronto. He took public transportation, went to night clubs and almost everyone spoke English.

image

He did manage to find “old Dubai” with some friends and bought me a beautiful silk pashmina.

image

I think I’m ready to join him on his next trip, yes?!

The stockings were hung from the hamper with care!

This is the extent of our Christmas decorations…2 stockings that Mark hung from our hamper.

image

Aren’t they festive?!

Just because we aren’t winning any holiday decorating awards doesn’t mean we don’t have the Christmas spirit. In fact, I think we have MORE Christmas spirit this year than ever!

This season, we’re celebrating in the first home that we own TOGETHER. And even though we aren’t finished with the renovation, it’s becoming apparent that this JOURNEY has been the blessing all along.

We’ve developed new friendships, rekindled old ones and made A TON OF MEMORIES (like our temporary “ladder living”) while rehabbing this house from top to bottom.

image

In the process, my appreciation for my husband has grown by leaps and bounds as I watch him transform our home.

image

I’ve been praying for a Christmas miracle…that we’d wake up on Christmas morning and the house would be finished! I doubt that will happen, but as long as I wake up next to this guy I know we’ll be okay. 🙂

image

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!

Awesome finds, Moving In

My husband is a genius

Yes, he is…a DIY genius.

Excuse me for a minute, while I help Mark squeeze his BIG head through the door…his ego is swelling with this post. 🙂

I’m not good at visualizing things, but Mark has said for months that putting that old elevator door on the ceiling would be awesome. He was right.

image

Mark did it all in one day. I went to work with a huge hole in my living room ceiling.

image

When I came home, Mark had the door up and put some old Christmas lights behind it so I could “see” his vision.

image

I love it. We’re going to swap out the hinges with gas pipe and use “LED light tape” instead of Christmas lights. I think the final product will be spectacular! It’s worth saying again…my husband is a genius!

Happy wife = happy life

Today’s Thanksgiving blog is a guest post from my husband. I am VERY THANKFUL for him and all of his handy ways. You have all seen that Mark is a master renovator…he’s not so bad with words either.

Here’s Mark…

This Thanksgiving, it’s not lost on me that most wives would not allow their living rooms to become storage sheds.

image

Or a wood shop.

image

Most women would not want to spend their weekends wearing a mask, getting dirty and doing manual labor.

image

I don’t think there are a lot of girls who could tear down walls, strip old doors and sand wood floors, and then jump in the shower and run and do this…

image

So, as we start the 8th month of our 2 month renovation project (whoops)…I would like to give thanks for my wife’s endless patience and understanding. (Most of the time.)

This thanksgiving (and every day of the week and month and year) I am reminded of how blessed (and lucky) I am that I found her…LOVE YOU BABY!!

Now…BACK TO WORK!

Someone got hurt

We knew it was only a matter of time…

image

My husband, Mark, works LONG days…putting time in at the house and managing several professional projects. He’s burning the candle at both ends and he got tripped up…

image

…by that little hole. While working LATE one night, Mark stepped through the hole, fell and ripped up part of his arm.

image

There’s nothing a little Neosporin can’t fix and before I could blink, my man of steel was back in action. Hail to Superman! (I think the Prantl’s almond cake aka “The Best Cake In America” helped more than anything)

Happy wife. Happy life.

I’ve never considered myself “high maintenance.”

image

My sister can attest that I’d rather go makeup free. As a kid, I was a TOTAL tomboy who couldn’t be bothered with makeup or hair dryers.

That has since changed because HD television can be very unkind…who would have ever thought PRIMER, TONER and BRONZER would be part of my vocabulary?!

image

While I really love getting all grungy and dirty with this home improvement project, I’m craving some “me” time.

Mark is somehow able to work on the house for hours on end, day after day…but I still need time to go to spin class…

image

Get a mani/pedi…

image

And watch the Real Housewives of Orange County.

image

I kinda feel guilty that I’m “wasting” this time on something other than our house.

But we all need to keep our sanity, right? And I’m pretty sure the saying is true…”Happy wife, happy life.” 🙂

My husband is a freak of nature.

I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Mark is like the Energizer Bunny. The man seriously keeps GOING & GOING & GOING…

IMG_0631

While the rest of us humans have to stop to eat and go the bathroom…my husband somehow can subsist on 1 donut and a coffee in the morning and last until 7 pm. The first 2 weeks I felt inferior. I would feel bad when I needed to sit down for 10 minutes and have a drink of water. And then I thought…I’m just going TO OWN IT.

image

Not only am I taking my union break…I’m enjoying an adult beverage that my LOVELY neighbor passed through the fence.

Mark’s halo in heaven might be bigger than mine…but I’ll have fewer wrinkles from all the REST I’m getting. 🙂

Our 1st freak out.

Normally, my husband and I are calm, cool and collected. We’ve got our little routine down pat and life is just rolling along.

And then, one day, everything went wrong and I became a CRAZY WOMAN and Mark had to drink like 20 beers.

The dumpster guy came and took our dumpster early…

photo

We had the lumber delivered and it started pouring down rain…

wood

We had a day dedicated to working on the house and then we both had to go to our real jobs at the last minute…

photo

(Not sure why I’m making that face, but I’m about to say something important…let’s go with that.)

And my new obsession with eating donuts while renovating resulted in me gaining 2 pounds. (don’t judge…I can’t help that it bothers me)

photo

Mark’s professional life is really busy right now, and since he’s doing most of the work we’re a bit behind schedule. To be honest, we both are a little overwhelmed…we only have 24 more days before we’re supposed to move in.

When I get like this there’s only one thing to do…CALL MOM. And my mom proceeded to tell me that this is a journey and a process, and if we didn’t finish on time it was no big deal. We can always crash at her house and she will feed us. (But no donuts)
