The Grand House

Ummmm…where have you been?!

I am asking myself this question and answering it…we have been busy!

Blogging has taken a back seat to REAL LIFE these last few months, but I have sooo many exciting things to share on the house front so let’s JUMP RIGHT IN.

Mark has all the interior walls, doorways and closets built.

Most of the ceilings are done as well including the HVAC systems and all the plumbing. YAY!

The kitchen, and all the other rooms, are ready for our spray foam crew that’s coming in at the end of March.

Here’s what we’re thinking for the kitchen…I got these photos from Pinterest.

I want a bright kitchen and Mark and I are both partial to gray. We also like the reclaimed wood floor and the white subway tiles as a backsplash.

I also love this kitchen inspiration from Pinterest…

I think we could get away with a darker cabinet because we have big windows and a French door that will let in lots of light and keep the space bright!

Would love to hear your thoughts and what you look for in a kitchen!!

The coffee and toast diet

Mark and I are on a new diet. We basically eat anything that you can make in a toaster oven or in a Keurig.

Here’s why…

redoing kitchen

For the next 5 weeks, we’ll being using this “makeshift kitchen” that we set up in our dining room.

redoing kitchen

Since I don’t cook (and Mark loves Wendy’s) this arrangement should suit us both just fine.

We’re going to demo our existing kitchen and make it into a very cool “galley kitchen.”

kitchen remodel

It’s a bit bigger than a traditional galley kitchen, but we think a sleek galley look will make the best use of the space!

I think we’ll be able to do the demolition in one day. Let’s hope the rebuild goes just as fast.

If anyone would like to join us on the diet…we’ll post weekly toast recipes. 🙂

The female Russell Crowe

My husband and I have a problem. Every time we rent a dumpster, instead of just throwing away all the construction garbage we have…we start blowing out walls.

The mood struck again and we decided to take off the door leading into the kitchen and blow out the wall next to it.

The door is pretty cool and we are saving it for an art piece that I’ll tell you about later. 🙂

We got to work with our hammers and sawzall and tore out the wood.

I think it looks great…our place feels even more OPEN than before. And I will tell you…tearing down walls kinda makes you feel like a gladiator in an action film. Just sayin’.

Mark then put up his stud walls so we could drywall around it.

kitchen 3

We have a special guest coming this weekend who LOVES to drywall. That’s what his wife told me. 🙂
