The First Year You SURVIVE, The Second You THRIVE!

Oh, what a difference a year makes!

Our sweet boy, Henry, just turned 2 and it was a SWEET birthday indeed.

No longer are we the sleep-deprived parents who feel like a shell of their former selves.

No longer am I a nursing Momma with a baby attached at the boob.

No longer is Henry a 2-a-day napper, but just a good, solid napper from 1 to 3 pm.

On his first birthday, I felt like we survived Henry’s first year still in tact…meaning Mark and I were still married and our son was still alive.

This year, on his second birthday, I felt like we truly enjoyed the sweet, funny and gregarious boy that he is!

We celebrated with his buddies who also turned 2 and their parents echoed what we felt. We finally feel like our heads are above water…enough that MAYBE we could have another?!?! 😊

Parenting 101

Mark and I have been dad and mom for almost 3 weeks. Here is what I would tell people about being a first time parent…

The majority of my day is spent hoping Henry poops, examining his poop and then discussing his poop with Mark.

image

As a breastfeeding mom, I am a 24 hour Dairy Queen and I don’t care about wearing nice shirts…I also walked into Starbucks with a huge wet spot after feeding Henry in the car…

image

Can you say major leakage?!?! Hahaha!

I’m always late. No matter how early I start getting Hank ready, something happens. He poops or vomits or cries…or as was the case two weeks ago, my car battery died. I’m never on time anymore.

I like to fix my hair and put on makeup before I leave the house. Now, I can do it one-handed.

image

Hank peed on me. Like all over me. Like in my face. Lesson learned…need to cover that thing up when changing his diaper.

Our life is totally crazy, but we are LOVING every single second.

Mark and I laugh and laugh, and we kiss our little peanut and love on him like two smitten parents who are absolutely exhausted.

Take A Wild Guess!

This is the easiest blog post I’ll ever write…

Take a wild guess at what I’m most thankful for this Thanksgiving?!

image

Look at my boys. How did one girl get so lucky?

image

I definitely don’t deserve them, but I’m thankful that God sent me Mark and Henry!

As a family, we are thankful for 4 wonderful grandparents, including Opa and Oma who came down from Toronto to see Henry.

image

We are thankful for friends and family who stop by and love on him and bring him super cute gifts…like these Converse sneakers from Aunt Susie and Uncle Pete. Aren’t they adorable?!

image

I’m SO THANKFUL that Henry is such a sweet baby and I’m feeling really good.

image

It’s nice to be able to get out of the house…even if we only go to Target and our favorite coffee shops in Lawrenceville.

image

I’m also thankful for the really easy labor I had…especially after watching my sister, Kelly, have a long and REALLY HARD labor with her daughter.

image

As Kelly said to me that day in the hospital as she watched Hank be born easily and quickly…”I love you. But I really hate you right now.” 😉

Our Little Man

Early this week, God sent us our gift…our sweet baby, Henry James, finally decided to make his debut!

image

He might have stayed in my belly for 42 weeks and required the doctors to induce him, but as soon as we started the induction, Hank the Tank got on board.

I only labored with little peanut for a few hours and the epidural was AWESOME. Like, totally awesome…ladies, you should get it.

image

Once Henry was ready, I pushed for 16 minutes and he popped right out.

image

We didn’t know the sex beforehand, so when Mark shouted “It’s a boy!!!”…I totally lost it.

image

It was THE. SINGLE. GREATEST. SURPRISE.

image

We are over the moon with this sweet baby and trying to figure out this parent thing. Oh my god, I already have like 5 funny stories to tell you…but that’s for another post!
